Effects of the Vitamins on the Phagocytic Function of the Reticuloendothelial System

Abstract
|
|
|
As one of the serial experiment to investigate the effect of vitamins on the reticuloendothelial function, vitamin A was injected into the rats and the phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system was assessed by means of carbon clearance method. The results were obtained as follows.
1. In the rats of the control group, injected with vitamin A solvent, the phagocytic activity showed no significant change in comparison with the normal rats:
2. In the group of vitamin A administration, the phagocytic activity increased markedly two days after the injection, whereafter it gradually returned to reach the control value in ten days.
From these results, it was concluded that there was close relationship between vitamin A and the phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system.
